  • Source: American Journal of Psychology (Vol 34 No 2 1923)
  • Author: Samuel W. Fernberger1University of Pennsylvania.

Summary

In this short article, Fernberger discusses the diaspora of the “peyote cult” from the Rio Grande to Mississippi, noting the Mexican use for the cactus in religious ceremonies.

He gives brief nods to those researchers who came before him, notably Weir Mitchell, Prentiss and Morgan, and William James’ failed attempts with peyote before describing his own experience taking 39 grams of that cactus at Clark University, 27 February 1920.
