A family friend (now deceased) took part in the CIA’s MKULTRA mind control experiments back in the late 1950s. I received this letter over a decade ago and only recently found it among my papers. Stark doesn’t get too deeply into what the actual experience was like as a test subject (besides saying that he was isolated for four months).
The letter serves as a reminder for me that the people abused in MKULTRA experiments were not just faceless names found in excellent books like The Search for the Manchurian Candidate, but real people who had their lives destroyed by this most sinister use of LSD and other psychedelics.
